Can An Infrared Thermal Camera Improve Accuracy For A NJ Mold Inspection?
Recently, during a Bergen County, NJ-based Mold Testing or Mold Inspection project, we were able to more accurately confirm the presence of mold using an Infrared Thermal Camera. And so we thought to post some pictures here, to help better visualize what that is for a property owner or homeowner.
‘Mold Testing NJ-NY’ takes its certifications, licenses, and ongoing education seriously. We are incredibly experienced Mold and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) testing inspectors!
Infrared Thermal Camera Versus Standard Camera Visual Comparison
Here are two pictures of a basement carpet with mold. In the first picture, using a standard camera, nothing looks unusual, and you cannot see that it is wet in certain areas. In the second picture, using an Infrared Thermal Camera, you will see a dark purple highlighted area in the picture. Ultimately, this confirms the area is compromised using what is a moisture meter.

With the infrared camera, you can see temperature differences that indicate a possible moisture/water issue, confirmed with the moisture meter. The infrared camera is only a tool to point you in the direction of a possible issue, and that needs to be confirmed with the moisture meter; however, it dramatically improves the accuracy of an inspection for an area of the basement that could result in mold underneath that carpeting.
