Westfield is a town located within Union County NJ. According to the 2021 census it has approximately 30,754 inhabitants. It was originally formed as a township in 1794 while the area was still part of Essex County, and was incorporated as one of New Jersey’s initial 104 townships in 1798 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. Westfield became part of Union County in 1857. The town of Westfield was incorporated in 1903 replacing Westfield Township. The town took it name from its location, the western undeveloped fields of Elizabethtown. Westfield is bordered by the Union County municipalities of Clark, Cranford, Garwood, Mountainside, Scotch Plains and Springfield.
